Honouring Innovation and Beauty for 175 Years of Boots
In honour of its 175th anniversary in business, Boots releases the much awaited Beauty Trends Report for 2024. The research presents five macro-trends influencing the future of health and beauty, based on insights from 2,500 beauty advisers and a sizable dataset gathered from over 16 million active Boots Advantage Card members.
The debut of the cutting-edge Boots Beauty store at Battersea Power Station and the addition of 49 new brands to their broad portfolio are just two of the exciting developments that Paul Niezawitowski, the company’s beauty director, highlights about this revolutionary year.
Trend 1: Beauty Boosters
Bold hues and fun textures will make a comeback in 2024 as ways for people to express their own styles. Gen Z’s inventive spirit is driving beauty regimens to become more and more of an avenue for experimentation and delight. Products like Milk Makeup’s Cooling Water Jelly Tint and NYX Professional Makeup’s Duck Plump Lip Clear Plumping Gloss are new to Boots this year. With products like PIXI’s On the Glow Blush, which offers customised colour changes dependent on the user’s skin pH, the viral trend of pH-powered makeup—which has had over 61 million views on TikTok—continues to pique interest.
Second Trend: The Effect of Longevity
Customers want to keep their skin looking young for as long as possible, thus the story around ageing is changing. This trend, known as the “longevity effect,” is characterised by an increase in demand for skincare products that claim to extend skin health. With a 73% increase in Google searches during the previous year, Retinal is in the limelight. Boots is going to launch The Ordinary’s Retinal 0.2% Emulsion Serum and add consultations for hyperpigmentation and skin ageing to its list of online medical services.
Third Trend: Mindful Habits
As more people become aware of the fundamental link between health and beauty, these two concepts are coming together more frequently. This tendency is further evidenced by Boots’ 18% growth in beauty vitamin sales. A greater understanding of the influence of gut health on skin appearance is shown in the report’s additional 16% rise in gut health product sales. These customer demands will be satisfied by upcoming releases such as Megababe’s skin-friendly products and Liquid I.V., which promises increased hydration.
Fourth Trend: Bio-Beautiful
A desire for products made with nature’s tenderness is developing as allergies and skin sensitivities increase. In response to the increasing popularity of searches for “sensitive skin” and “natural skincare,” Boots relaunched their Natural Collection, which is now 90% natural, cruelty-free, and vegan. This assortment is a portion of the broadest selection of Leaping Bunny-approved items from Cruelty Free International available on UK high streets.
Expert Evolution is the Fifth Trend
The need for professional guidance is greater than ever in the increasingly complicated beauty industry. Boots is taking a proactive approach by educating more than 4,000 of its chemists in dermatology, empowering them to freely provide specialised skincare advice. Furthermore, a new Dermatological Skincare portal on Boots.com will offer helpful advice and recommendations, increasing customer access to professional expertise.
Gazing Forward
The 2024 Beauty Trends Report not only recognises previous successes but also lays out a roadmap for the future in a market that is always changing, as Boots maintains its innovation and leadership position in the beauty sector. These trends portend an exciting year ahead for the beauty retail industry by demonstrating a profound awareness of customer preferences and an ongoing dedication to wellness, health, and beauty.
