This festive season, Westfield London is set to transform into a unique blend of winter wonderland and tropical paradise with the return of its iconic ice rink. From 15th November 2024 to 5th January 2025, visitors can experience the magic of ice skating with a tropical twist, inspired by Disney Animation’s highly anticipated Moana 2.
A Fusion of Pacific Islands and Festive Cheer
Situated in Westfield Square, the 1,000m² ice rink is more than just a place to skate—it’s an immersive journey into the vibrant world of Oceania. At its centre stands Europe’s tallest Christmas tree on an ice rink, soaring 65 feet high and adorned with intricate island-inspired decorations. The tree, a stunning homage to the beauty of the Pacific Islands, embodies the adventurous spirit of Moana 2, which hits UK cinemas on 29th November 2024.
Mel Lalou, Head of Westfield Rise, said: “This collaboration with Walt Disney Animation Studios allows us to bring the magic of Moana to life in a way that resonates with visitors of all ages. The Moana-themed ice rink seamlessly integrates retail, leisure, and entertainment, setting a new standard for festive attractions.”
Skating with a Splash of Adventure
Whether you’re a seasoned skater or stepping onto the ice for the first time, the rink caters to all ages and abilities. Special sessions are available for toddlers, families, and individuals with additional needs, with friendly penguin skating aids on hand to help little ones as young as three.
Tickets start at £11.00 for 45 minutes, with sessions running daily from 10am to 9pm. Guests can glide beneath the towering Christmas tree and enjoy the surrounding atmosphere, where the warmth of the Pacific Islands meets traditional festive charm.
Moana-Themed Experiences and Beyond
To celebrate the partnership, the ice rink will host a series of Moana 2-themed events throughout the season. These events aim to bring the film’s themes of courage, exploration, and adventure to life both on and off the ice.
Branding from Moana 2 will feature prominently across the rink and the wider shopping centre, including digital screens, experiential spaces, and the skate change area. Visitors can even spot nods to the film on the Christmas tree itself, making it an unmissable spectacle for fans of the Disney franchise.
Laura Waters, General Manager at Westfield London, said: “Christmas at Westfield London is always magical, and this year we’re adding a splash of island spirit. Families and friends can skate around a Pacific Island-themed Christmas tree, immersing themselves in the festive joy and adventure that defines this special time of year.”
A Full Day of Festive Fun
The fun doesn’t stop at the rink. Visitors can explore nearby attractions like Ichiba and Westwood Sports Pub & Kitchen or try out activities such as City Bouldering, Puttshack, and All Star Lanes for a complete day of entertainment.
Westfield London’s partnership with Disney Animation Studios highlights the power of combining retail, leisure, and entertainment to create lasting memories. As Lalou puts it, “This collaboration showcases how entertainment brands and shopping destinations can use physical spaces to craft experiences that resonate far beyond the moment.”
