UEFA and adidas have officially unveiled KONEKTIS, the match ball for the upcoming UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, marking a milestone in football technology and design. As anticipation builds for the tournament draw in Switzerland, KONEKTIS promises to unite fans, players, and the host nation with cutting-edge innovations and striking visual elements.
A Technological Breakthrough
For the first time in the tournament’s history, the official match ball will feature adidas’ Connected Ball Technology, a game-changing addition designed to enhance officiating accuracy. Developed in collaboration with Kinexon, the technology provides real-time ball data to video assistant referees (VAR), enabling quicker and more precise decision-making.
By integrating ball and player position data with artificial intelligence, VAR officials can identify individual touches, reducing the time spent resolving contentious handball and penalty incidents. This innovation underscores adidas’ commitment to elevating the game through technology.
“Innovation is at the heart of everything we do,” said Solène Störmann, adidas’ global category director for football hardware. “KONEKTIS embodies our mission to enhance the sporting experience for players and fans alike.”
A Celebration of Swiss Heritage
The KONEKTIS ball draws inspiration from Switzerland’s iconic landscape and architecture. Its design features a pearlescent background adorned with jagged-edged block patterns in vibrant hues of red, blue, purple, orange, and green, mirroring the silhouette of the Alps. Each panel incorporates bespoke graphics representing landmarks from the tournament’s eight host cities, including Basel City Hall, the Bern Clock Tower, and Geneva’s Water Jet.
“KONEKTIS – derived from the Esperanto word for ‘connected’ – unites players, fans, and the host nation in a way only football can,” Störmann added.
Engineered for Performance
Beyond aesthetics, KONEKTIS is engineered for peak performance. Its 20-panel PRECISIONSHELL construction ensures enhanced accuracy and flight consistency, while the CTR-CORE system optimises shape retention and air pressure. These features aim to support the fast-paced, precise play expected at the highest level of competition.
A Unique Launch in the Alps
To celebrate the ball’s unveiling, adidas hosted Swiss national team captain and tournament ambassador Lia Wälti at the Ottmar Hitzfeld Arena, Europe’s highest football pitch, located 2,000 metres above sea level in the Swiss Alps. The breathtaking setting provided the perfect backdrop for Wälti to reflect on the significance of competing in her home country.
A Pivotal Moment for Women’s Football
UEFA managing director of women’s football, Nadine Kessler, hailed the launch as a turning point for the sport: “UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 will be another accelerator in the unstoppable rise of women’s football. KONEKTIS perfectly encapsulates this progress, and its advanced technology will deliver a truly connected competition experience for everyone involved.”
